HM Inspectorate of Probation Promoting Race Equality - HMIP'S Associate Scheme - Towards Race Equality
The murder of Stephen Lawrence and the subsequent Macpherson report provided a catalyst for change that has fundamentally altered the way our society perceives the criminal justice system. The Home Secretary has made a firm commitment to promote race equality and set targets to achieve the changes required. I therefore decided that it was timely to assess thework of probation services by looking at both employment practice and work with minority ethnic offenders and racially motivated offenders.
