In this paper we use a cast study to illustrate how the costs and the benefits of an inspection can be assessed. There are four elements to this exercise; two on costs and two on benefits; A) Costs to the Inspectorate B) Costs to the inspected body C) Benefits - the measurably improved performance by the inspected body D) Benefits - the extent to which the measured improvement can be attributed to inspection
