SOCA
The Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005 provided for the establishment of the Serious Organised Crime Agency that is due to become operational in April 2006. The same Act enables the Secretary of State to appoint a date by which the National Criminal Intelligence Service, the National Crime Squad and their respective Service Authorities cease to exist.
In addition the Act states that Her Majesty's Inspector's of Constabulary (HMIC) must inspect SOCA from time to time. Also, if requested to do so by the Secretary of State, HMIC must inspect SOCA generally or in respect of a particular matter.
