Joint Area Inspection - Report on an inspection visit to police custody suites in Islington Command Unit - May 2008
This is the second in a series of reports of inspections of police custody suites carried out by our two inspectorates. These inspections form a key part of the joint work programme for the criminal justice inspectorates, agreed with ministers, and arise from the UK’s international obligation to ensure the regular independent inspection of all places of detention.1 The inspections look not only at compliance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) codes, but also at the conditions of detention and the treatment of detainees.
