Performance Review Inspection: Dorset - May 1996

A Performance Review Inspection was conducted in May 1996 by Her Majesty�s Inspector. All ofthe recommendations from his 1995 Report were being addressed but most had not been concluded,partly because the Chief Constable was anxious that the structural changes introduced in 1994 begiven time to produce results and also to allow the new command team to settle in. Whilstappreciating the need for stability, the delay in action may perpetuate inefficiencies and createuncertainty. One particularly disappointing consequence is that the police and civilian personneldepartments remain separate, with little progress on personnel and training issues as evidenced by thepace of the delivery of equal opportunities training.
