Performance Review Inspection: Cheshire - June 1997
Her Majesty's Inspector acknowledges the good operational results achieved by CheshireConstabulary during the last year and was pleased to see that crime levels in the County havecontinued to fall (-9% between 1993 and 1996). As a result of their significant investment in tacklingcrime the Force achieved a commendable overall detection rate of 35.1% well above the nationalaverage of 28%, with significant performance in dealing with offences of Violence (87.7%) andBurglary Dwelling (28.3%). Excellent use is made of intelligence to identify and target criminals.Call management is good and the Force have achieved their times for answering and responding toemergency calls.Over and above day to day demands the Force has managed an impressive response to majorincidents and enquiries including Wilmslow terrorist bombing, the environmental protest atManchester Airport and the disappearance and subsequent murder of a Chester schoolgirl.
