Basic Command Unit (BCU) Inspection Reports for Hampshire

  • OCU Inspection Report: Southampton (Hampshire) Follow - Up: February 2008 (PDF file - 355kb)

    The original inspection of Southampton OCU took place in February 2007 following poor comparative performance on priority crime. As part of the inspection process the OCU had undertaken a full self assessment and had themselves identified a number of systems and processes requiring improvement. The inspection report contained eight recommendations and highlighted the key areas for improvement. It also noted examples of good practice and strong leadership. The senior management team (SMT) have since been working hard to implement the action plans developed in response to the report. The revisit provided the opportunity for HMIC to assess progress to date and review performance issues.

    Between 11 and 15 April 2005 Chief Superintendents Frank Sullivan, Peter Driver and Chief Inspectors Nicole Coppinger and Bill Halsey carried out an inspection of Havant Basic Command Unit (BCU), (referred to locally as a division) on behalf of Her Majesty’s Inspector of Constabulary (HMIC).

  • Basic Command Unit Inspection Follow up: Basingstoke - Hampshire - June 2004 (PDF file - 71kb)

    The Inspection team found evidence that some activity had taken place on all therecommendations contained in the BCU Inspection report. An action plan had been establishedwhich covered all the four original recommendations made. These had been prioritised within theBCU, as were the management considerations cited in the report. The evidence presented to therevisit team indicates that the BCU Inspection report did lead to improvements.

  • Basic Command Unit Inspection: Isle of Wight - Dec 2001 (PDF file - 403kb)

    The inspection of the Isle of Wight basic command unit (referred to locally as a division) wascarried out on behalf of Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary by Chief SuperintendentAndrew Hollingshead and Chief Inspector Amanda Hills between the 3 and 7 December2001.This inspection was one of the first to take place as part of the rolling five-year BCUInspection Programme. The BCU was selected after a 'risk assessment' indicated that it wasone of the top-performing BCU�s in the southern region of police forces, and was the bestperforming within its force. The inspection team wish to place on record their thanks for theco-operation and assistance provided by the BCU commander and his staff.
