Inspection Protocol for Sickness Management
The levels of sickness absence in the police service and the ensuing costs havebeen an issue since the mid-1980s. That was when HMIC in conjunction withACPO initiated programmes of inspection and change. By the end of the decadesickness data was being collected centrally and the evidence revealed that in1990 1.1 million days or 5.1% of police working days were lost in sickness.
