About Us: HMIC - 150 Years
Gender Equality Scheme
HMIC recognises that politically, economically and socially the issues relating to gender are changing in terms of roles, values, aspirations and economic independence. These societal changes continue to present challenges to the police service, in how we build an organisation where each individual feels valued and empowered to develop to their full potential within their chosen career.
As Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Constabulary I am determined to deliver a balanced and equitable service for our staff and within the police service we inspect. We will also seek to ensure that gender equality forms part of our overall strategy along with our other equality schemes to create a working environment where difference is embraced and discrimination and inequalities between men and women are removed, i.e. barriers to particular roles that had traditionally excluded or restricted women or men from applying will be challenged where gender is not a necessary requirement.
