The majority of police forces in England and Wales have further to go if they are to keep their promise to the public on the service they provide, an inspection by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary has found.
Our Aims
Through the inspection of police organisations and functions, it is the aim of HMIC to promote efficiency and effectiveness of policing in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and to ensure:
- agreed standards are achieved and maintained;
- good practice is spread; and
- performance is improved.
Also to provide advice and support to the tripartite partners (Home Secretary, police authorities and forces) and play an important role in the development of future leaders.
